At 887 metres, Mount Scenery is the highest point in the entire Kingdom of the Netherlands, and the classic route up begins just outside Windwardside village. More than a thousand stone steps climb through elfin cloud forest dripping with ferns and orchids to summit viewpoints that, on clear days, take in Statia, St. Kitts and St. Barts. The round trip takes a few hours and rewards a moderate effort with some of the Caribbean's most unusual scenery.
