Nature and outdoor walks in Saint-Barthélemy
Explore Saint-Barthélemy’s coastal footpaths, hilltop views, tidal pools and protected marine wildlife.
These outdoor spots bring together coastal walks, a summit hike and places to encounter the island’s marine life. Paths lead to Colombier Beach and the Natural Pools of Grand Fond, while the lagoon and Morne de Vitet offer wildlife and wide island views.
Colombier Beach (Anse de Colombier)
Beach, Colombier
A coastal footpath from Petite Anse leads to this secluded cove in the marine nature reserve. Snorkellers may share the water with sea turtles and starfish.
Fort Karl
Things to do, Gustavia
A short marked trail from near Shell Beach climbs to the remains of Fort Karl. From the summit, views extend over Gustavia’s harbour and the sea approaches.
Grand Cul-de-Sac Lagoon
Parks & Nature, Grand Cul-de-Sac
This reef-protected lagoon has seagrass meadows that feed a resident population of green sea turtles. Its calm, shallow water is suited to snorkelling, and the protected marine zones require wildlife to be watched but not touched.
Morne de Vitet
Parks & Nature, Vitet
Footpaths and quiet country lanes from Vitet climb to the island’s highest point. The moderately demanding walk offers views across the island and, on clear days, to Saint Martin and Anguilla.
Natural Pools of Grand Fond (Piscines Naturelles)
Parks & Nature, Grand Fond
A 20–30 minute shore path passes volcanic rock formations on the way to these tidal pools. They are safest and clearest at low tide on calm days.
Saline Beach (Anse de Grande Saline)
Beach, Grande Saline
A short sandy footpath crosses dunes from the car park beside the old salt pond to this undeveloped beach. Its shallow entry can have surf, so swimming is better on calmer days.
