Codrington Lagoon National Park (Frigate Bird Sanctuary)
Parks & Nature · Barbuda, Antigua and Barbuda
Barbuda's vast western lagoon shelters the largest magnificent frigatebird colony in the Western Hemisphere, with thousands of birds nesting in the mangroves. Local guides run short boat trips from Codrington to the rookery, where in mating season the males inflate brilliant red throat pouches just metres from the boat. The lagoon is a protected national park and one of the Caribbean's great wildlife encounters.
